MARTYN Moxon has revealed that Yorkshire will again target a fast bowler to fill their overseas slot for next season.

Moxon has not ruled Tino Best out of the running, but the West Indian paceman is surely a non-starter after losing any kind of form over the last couple of months.

“We are looking for an overseas fast bowler for next season,” he said. “It is still early days and, until we have those no-objection certificates from the country of whoever the player plays for, there is no way a deal can be done.

“We have some irons in the fire but it is early days.”

Moxon has confirmed that Best will not play again for the county this season after tearing his hamstring.

The 28-year-old returned to Barbados on Wednesday ahead of a four-to-six-week recovery period.

Moxon added: “We are going to keep in touch with Tino to see how things develop in his off-season. I would not rule out him coming back, but we will see how the winter progresses.”

Opening batsman Joe Sayers is unlikely to feature again this season due to illness.

Sayers’ problems started before the Championship match against Lancashire at Old Trafford in late June, when he suffered an asthma attack. He has played one second- team fixture since.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s chances of winning the LV= County Championship title are all but over after leaders Nottinghamshire beat Lancashire yesterday.

Notts are 19 points clear of Andrew Gale’s side with three matches left, while Yorkshire have two to play.

Notts need only a further 30 points to extinguish Yorkshire’s chances should the White Rose win both matches with the maximum haul of 24 points.
