Today’s prospects By Tattenham

GODOLPHIN’S Silk Trail appears to have been found the perfect opportunity to break her duck in the Phoenix Security Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle.

The three-year-old was a big eyecatcher when staying on from the rear to fill the runner- up spot on her Lingfield debut – but has not scored in two subsequent starts.

However, she has still been placed in maiden events at Windsor and Salisbury, and looks to have less on her plate at Gosforth Park.

Chris Wall’s Epsom winner Fathom Five is a confident pick when the Piramal Healthcare Gosforth Park Cup takes centre stage.

The former Bryan Smart inmate was seriously progressive a couple of seasons ago, winning three times during a lucrative 2007 campaign.

On first look he was slightly disappointing the following year but, in his defence, he was being campaigned at a decent level – notably finishing a close-up fourth in a Group Three at the Curragh.

It should have therefore come as no surprise when he made a winning start for new connections on the Downs in April.

With further improvement not inconceivable, it would be dangerous to write him off.

Kiama Bay won a shade cosily at Hamilton last week and it may be that a 6lb penalty is not enough to stop him going in again at Chester.

John Quinn’s charge failed to cut much ice in three maidens over sprint distances, with Beverley’s seven furlongs still appearing too sharp for him on his handicap debut.

Plenty fancied him when stepped up to a mile north of the border and he duly came good, pulling readily clear of the runner-up.

This additional step up in trip for the John Lennon Airport Handicap should only serve to bring about further improvement.

It would be surprising if he is not there or thereabouts.

Cherry Bee has shown up well on her first couple of outings and is taken to add to the tally of trainer Mark Johnston in the EBF simpsonmillar.

Jamie Poulton’s Sweetheart is a likeable stayer and can complete a hat-trick in Folkestone’s Bernie Mill Birthday Celebration Handicap, while the Ralph Beckett-trained Mullein should make the most of a drop in class in the EBF Fillies’ Conditions Stakes at Newmarket.

The laudably consistent Come Out Firing can secure yet another triumph this season at Market Rasen.
