Wearside League

UNTIL last week Willington didn’t know where their next point would come from but all of a sudden they’ve taken four from two games with Boldon CA.

Last Wednesday they celebrated their first win of the season and when the teams were again in opposition on Saturday, the Hall Lane side gained a 4-4 draw on South Tyneside.

Chris Robinson and Mark Williams (penalty) quickly had Boldon two ahead but Willington hit back to take a 3-2 lead courtesy of Martin Scott (2) and Darren Box.

David Hopper and Michael Meek then swung the game in Boldon’s favour for a second time but in the last minute Adam Blenkinsopp scored an equaliser to raise hopes that better times are on the horizon for Willington, who gained just a point from their first 17 games.

Newton Aycliffe’s fixture at Easington Colliery was postponed and second-top New Marske took advantage to reduce the difference between the sides to six points.

The Seasiders had little trouble seeing off Kirkbymoorside as the goals flowed from Rob Jones with a brace, and Alex Anderson.

Teesside Athletic, the only unbeaten side, won the topfour clash with Coxhoe Athletic and are now third, 12 points adrift of Newton Aycliffe with four games in hand.

Stephen Thompson, Roy Hunter, Andrew Bell and James Kesterton were their marksmen with Luke Lavery, Dean Lawson and Gareth McMahon on target for Coxhoe.

Ryhope CW missed the opportunity to go third when they lost a closely-fought match at Windscale by the only goal, scored by Jack Wallace after three minutes.

He was injured in the process and had to be substituted at half-time. Ryhope had the better of the second half exchanges and only a brilliant save by Windscale goalkeeper James Dolan denied them a point.

A late strike by Lee Harrison earned Ashbrooke Belford House the points against Cleator Moor Celtic, for whom Barry Evans cancelled out Martin Deacon’s early effort.

Silksworth Community lost the bottom five contest at Guisborough Town HC, who leapfrogged the Wearsiders with a 2-1 win thanks to goals by Paul Milward and Callum Reavley. Ross Taylor had given the Wearsiders a fifth minute advantage.

The games between Easington Colliery and Newton Aycliffe, Jarrow against Hartlepool and Wolviston’s home fixture with Annfield Plain were called off.
