HAYLEY Turner partnered her first winner for Middleham trainer Mark Johnston when picking up a spare ride aboard Nightjar in the Play Golf At Southwell Golf Club Handicap at the Nottinghamshire venue.

Franny Norton had been due to partner the four-yearold in the £18,000 feature but stood himself down after pulling muscles in his back.

Record-breaking Turner already had four booked mounts at her home track and after securing the ride on the 7-2 chance, she capitalised by overturning 6-5 favourite Majuro to collect by a length and a quarter.

The 26-year-old said: ‘‘I was asked to ride the horse as I got off my previous mount and it is unfortunate for Franny. It was my first ride for Mr Johnston and it is nice that it was a winning one.

‘‘He seems to like it round here and he stayed on well without me having to use my stick."

■ Ayr have been granted an extra fixture on Sunday following the recent spate of abandoned meetings throughout Britain.

The Victor Chandler Homecoming Raceday will feature a six-race card with total prize money of £51,000.

But Hexham have abandoned the three chases scheduled for Sunday’s meeting due to an unraceable track.
