NEWTON Aycliffe continue to power ahead at the top of the table and opened up a three-point lead recording their 12th win in 15 attempts, this time at Hartlepool.

Pools struck first when Stephen Chapman delivered a clinical finish from outside the penalty area after just five minutes. Mark Wood then fired a leveller and, inspired by this success, Aycliffe had the better of the second half exchanges.

Two goals in 10 minutes from Stephen Meney left Pools with a mountain to climb and just before the end Elliott Gardner celebrated his debut scoring Aycliffe’s fourth goal.

Only one other game went ahead in the League and Kirkbymoorside claimed a point from fifth-top Ryhope CW.

Johnny Brown scored a minute before the break from the edge of the box, but shortly after resuming, Ryhope’s Stephen Rochester restored parity in a goalmouth melee.

All three Monkwearmouth Charity Cup ties went ahead but the game at New Marske was abandoned after 100 minutes.

Just a couple of weeks ago, New Marske hammered East Durham United 8-1 but it was a different game on Saturday.

Philip Peggs was first marksman and when Alex Anderson also struck, United had their backs to the wall.

But they rallied and manof- the-match Paul Hobson led the revival before Peter Kane equalised. The game went into extra time but after 10 minutes the referee called a halt because of the poor light.

Wolviston reached the Third Round with a comfortable victory over Cleator Moor Celtic at Metcalfe Park where Craig Winter headed in a corner on 20 minutes.

Just before the finish Glen Smith was fouled and Guy Whatmore stepped forward to convert the penalty and end Cumbrians’ hopes.

Jarrow were in Cumbria and they won by a two-goals margin at Windscale.

Forward Craig Lunn struck after just 20 seconds. Shortly afterwards, Chris McDonald pounced on a rebound after the impressive James Dolan had made a partial save.

Jarrow continued to be the dominant side and four outstanding saves by Dolan prevented a rout for the hosts.

Teesside Athletic defeated Nunthorpe 4-3 on penalties in the North Riding Senior Cup.

Chris Bivens fired the home side in front after just three minutes but teenager Daniel Drazdauskas equalised 10 minutes later.

Extra time wasn’t played and in the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Teesside were indebted to goalkeeper Stuart McDonald who saved two spot-kicks.
