MATTHIAS JAISSLE was unhappy at receiving a yellow card for leaving his technical area during yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
The Newcastle United boss was warned for straying too far down the touchline in the first half at St James’ Park, and was eventually booked by referee Rob Jones in the second period on the advice of the fourth official.
Jaissle developed a reputation for being a bundle of energy on the touchline during his time in Saudi Arabia in charge of Al-Ahli and admitted he would have to try to control himself after he was appointed as Eddie Howe’s successor on Tyneside.
However, he felt yesterday’s booking was unnecessary, and has questioned the need to be so meticulous when it comes to keeping managers within their technical areas on the touchline.
“It was a bit disappointing,” said Jaissle. “I need to check what was really causing that problem.

“If I am against a referee, then it is fine to get a yellow card. But if I am just 20cm outside my box, just pushing my team and engaging with the team, then I am not sure if there is any benefit of this rule.”
Newcastle were outplayed in the first half of yesterday’s game, with Bournemouth establishing a two-goal lead after Marcus Tavernier’s opener was followed by an own goal from Malick Thiaw.
Harvey Barnes’ wonder goal reduced Newcastle’s deficit, before Jacob Ramsey struck with two minutes left to salvage a point.
“We have to be patient, definitely,” said Jaissle. “I’ve mentioned that many times. We are still unbeaten at the start of the season. With the calibre of teams we have faced, that is a strong statement, especially when you consider this transition phase.
“When you see so many young lads in the squad, there will be ups and downs within a game. You saw that today, but the most important thing is that the learning curve is there.
“After the first half, we made that happen, with the energy and synergy from the fans. It felt like it was just a matter of time for the equaliser, and if there were ten more minutes to play, we could have gone for a winner.”
