An amateur cricket match in North Yorkshire has been marred by allegations of cheating, with a video going viral online.

North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League is now investigating the game between the second teams of Saltburn and Norton Cricket Clubs after a video appeared to show one of the Saltburn players clicking his fingers to simulate a ball being 'edged' by a batsman.

This leads to the Norton player being caught by wicketkeeper Josh Bowes. The umpire gives the decision as out after Saltburn call for it.

Division Two leaders Saltburn won the match by 159 runs and sit 17 points clear at the top of the table.

Bowes leads the league statistics for catches this season.

A statement by the league on X said: "The League have received a formal complaint regarding alleged incidents in a Division Two game on Saturday.

"A full investigation has been initiated and until such time as the formal processes are complete no further comment will be made."

The video clip has been viewed almost four million times on X and has been reported on by news outlets all over the world.

The Northern Echo has contacted Saltburn CC for comment, Norton CC declined to comment.
