A racehorse trained in North Yorkshire has been crowned All-Weather Horse of the Year after a remarkable winter campaign.

Yorkshire Glory, trained by Ben Haslam at Castle Hill Stables in Middleham, earned the title following his fifth consecutive victory at Wolverhampton on Monday evening.

The win also secured a £100,000 bonus for his owners, Blue Lion Racing.

Mr Haslam said: "It was incredible. We weren’t going there expecting to win, and to land the bonus was the cherry on top.

"He actually won an additional bonus for horse of the month as well, as it was his third win in March.

"What has made it so impressive is that he’s improved throughout the campaign."

Ridden by Andrew Mullen, the five-year-old topped Arena Racing Company’s All-Weather Horse of the Year competition.

It was the horse's eighth win since December.

Mr Haslam said: "He’s an enormous horse who maybe struggled as a three- and four-year-old, but when sprinters start honing in on what they can actually do, it’s remarkable how much they can improve.

"If my father was alive today, he would have enjoyed that a lot as there was no better man than him for placing a horse.

"My wife’s family bought him as a foal and he was so backward that we didn’t break him in until he was a two-year-old.

"They syndicated him out to some very good friends and a long-standing syndicate who have been with us for 20-plus years."

Yorkshire Glory could make his next start at Newcastle on Friday.

The race could mark the conclusion of his all-weather season at a track where he has already notched six of his eight recent wins.

Mr Haslam said the horse had recovered well from his Wolverhampton outing, and a return to Newcastle remained an option.

The 2025-26 All-Weather Championships season will conclude with Finals Day at Newcastle on Good Friday, April 3.
