JENSON SEELT completed a deadline-day exit from Sunderland, with the centre-half joining German club Wolfsburg on a season-long loan.
Seelt’s future had been the subject of debate for much of last month, with the 22-year-old having featured in the Black Cats’ opening two league games.
However, with the signing of Lutsharel Geertruida having shuffled him further down the pecking order, and with Luke O’Nien and Aji Alese both expected to be back available shortly after the international break, it was decided that Seelt’s development would be best served by a spell away from Wearside.
NEC Nijmegen had offered him a loan deal back in his native Netherlands, but he will instead spend the rest of the campaign playing in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.
“First and foremost, we were delighted to see Jenson return to action this summer,” said Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman. “Throughout pre-season and the start of the Premier League campaign, he’s looked really good, but we believe this season he needs to play more minutes than we can guarantee at this moment in time.
“The opportunity to play in the Bundesliga is the perfect platform for him to feature regularly at a high level and gain the experience he needs at this stage of his development.”
