Mike Dodds described Sunderland as "pathetic" after their 5-1 hammering at home to Blackburn. Here's how the players rated:

Sunderland (4-2-3-1):

5 Patterson: Let down by shambolic defence in front.

4 Hume: First two goals came down Sunderland’s right. Never settled and pinned back so couldn’t make an impact going forward.

3 Ballard: Lost the battle against Gallagher. All goals came inside the six yard box.

3 O’Nien: Like Ballard, desperately struggled. Early in the second half Blackburn looked like scoring every time they attacked.

5 Styles: Uncomfortable defensively throughout. Did manage to get forward a couple of times in first half.

4 Neil: Sloppy throughout and at fault for Blackburn’s fourth goal.

3 Ekwah: Early shot on goal but soon went missing. Sunderland’s midfield was completely overrun.

3 Roberts: Costly slip was punished when Blackburn opened the scoring. Rusty and way, way short of his best.

4 Aouchiche: Early header and couple of tidy touches but quickly faded.

4 Mundle: One or two bright dashes down the left but failed to make an impact.

5 Bellingham: Starved of service. Didn’t get a look-in.

Substitutes:

6 Dack (for Aouchiche, 55): Header saved for Rigg goal.

6 Clarke (for Mundle, 55): Tried to get Sunderland on front foot.

6 Rigg (for Roberts, 55): Lively. Scored.

Subs not used: Bishop, Pembele, Hemir, Burstow, Ba, Hjelde

BLACKBURN (4-2-3-1): Pears 6, Brittain 7, Wharton 7, Hyam 7, Pickering 5 (Chrisene, 19,; Tronstad 7, Hedges 8 (Buckley, 74), Rankin-Costello 8 (Markanday, 74), Szmodics 8, Dolan 9, Gallagher 8 (Moran, 68)

Subs not used: Wahlstedt, Carter, Telovic, Ayari, McFadzean

Man of the Match: Tyrhys Dolan. Blackburn’s front four was terrific but Dolan was the best of them. Sunderland had no answers.
