DARLINGTON have bolstered their squad in the battle to avoid relegation from National League North with the capture of Middlesbrough midfielder Joe Gibson.

The 22-year-old has joined Quakers on a month's loan move.

The versatile youngster, who can also play in defence, has played more than 100 games for Boro's Under-21s as well as featuring for the first team in the FA and Carabao Cup.

He made his senior debut in the FA Cup win over Mansfield Town in January, 2022, when Chris Wilder was in charge and also played in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley last season.

Gibson has not long returned from injury but has been in action for Boro's Under-21s in recent weeks. He scored the winning goal in a game against Norwich City's youngsters before playing an hour against Manchester United at the weekend.

Darlington are in action at Blyth tonight, while Middlesbrough play Birmingham City in the Championship.
