EDDIE Howe leapt to the defence of Dan Burn after another difficult afternoon for the Newcastle United full-back against Bournemouth.

After Luton winger Chiedozie Ogbene gave Burn a torrid time at St James' Park earlier this month, the Cherries appeared to target Newcastle's left side and wideman Antoine Semenyo was a threat throughout.

It was Semenyo who scored Bournemouth's second goal in the 2-2 draw, with Burn backing off before the winger lashed a low strike into the far corner. Burn was then replaced just two minutes later, but Howe hit back at any suggestions the Geordie defender should be singled out for criticism or made a scapegoat.

"I'm not dealing with that kind of thought in my mind," he said.

"It's not about finding someone to blame, it's about solutions. That's what I'll do.

"I could evaluate everyone's performance and pick holes in it. For me it's always been about finding solutions. That second goal wouldn't have just come from one individual mistake, it will be three or four. People may highlight one person but in my job you can't do that."

Howe hailed the resilience of his Newcastle side, who twice came from behind in the second half, with substitute Matt Ritchie scoring a stoppage time equaliser to make it 2-2.

"Another comeback for us, not a comeback to win but a comeback to get a point," said Howe.

"We had to dig really deep today. The way the game had gone and the goals we conceded were tough blows for us.

"Real credit to the group for raising themselves. It's not the three points we wanted but I'm glad we didn't lose.

"We have to look at the positives, it's another game unbeaten for us. We're getting points where we went through a spell when we weren't. That was a big late goal for us, it just keeps that momentum.

"Of course we're looking for three points in every home game so we're disappointed with certain aspects as well."
