NEWCASTLE midfielder Isaac Hayden says he didn't want to take the "easy option" and is determined to help Queens Park Rangers climb out of relegation trouble in the Championship after joining the Hoops on loan until the end of the season.

Hayden spent the first half of the season on loan at Standard Liege before returning to the North East in January. Another loan exit was always on the cards for the 28-year-old, who doesn't feature in Eddie Howe's plans, and he's now linked up with Rangers.

“I feel very happy, very pleased to be joining QPR,” he said.

“I am just delighted to get it over the line.

“It is obvious to see the position the club are in at the moment but it is a challenge that I feel I can add some value to, on and off the pitch – be an experienced player and be a leader to try and help the club stay in the league.

“Everyone knows what the Championship is like but if we can get a consistent run of performances, hopefully the points will come.”

Hayden will offer vital experience for QPR having played for Newcastle, Hull and Norwich in the Championship.

He said: “You can take the easy option in life and do things the easy way or you can take a challenge on and go head first into it.

“That’s what I wanted to do here. I have looked at the squad and there are some really good players in it.

“There is definitely enough there but it is about us proving that on a matchday when it counts.”

“I understand what it entails. It needs grit, determination, heart and accountability.

“That’s a big one for me, everyone has to be accountable for their own performances and do everything they can to help the team and improve the team, whether you are a young lad that hasn’t played before or a senior pro.”

QPR head coach Martí Cifuentes said: “I am very happy the club has managed to get in a player like Isaac.

“He is experienced in the Premier League and the Championship, he has played a lot of games and shown his quality.

“Not only is his experience important but also the determination that he showed to come here and the effort he made to play for QPR. That speaks highly about him.

“He will definitely be an important player for us to achieve our target at the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Josh Scott has left Newcastle for Queen's Park on a permanent basis, while Jay Turner-Cooke is back on Tyneside having returned from his loan spell with St Johnstone.
