How did the players fare in Sunderland’s 1-0 defeat to Hull?

SUNDERLAND (4-2-3-1):

6 Patterson: Didn’t have a chance with Carvalho’s deflected strike, and didn’t have a lot to do for the rest of the night

4 Seelt: Doesn’t possess the ball-playing skills needed to play at right-back – offers next to nothing going forward down the flank

6 Ballard: Made a couple of important challenges in the first half and came close with a header that flashed past the post

5 O’Nien: Did reasonably well against the Hull attack, but didn’t always use the ball effectively when he had it

5 Hume: Defended reasonably well, but didn’t offer Clarke much support on the overlap down the flank

5 Neil: Didn’t offer any incision in the central areas, but was unfortunate to help divert Carvalho’s strike into the net

4 Ekwah: Is struggling for form at the moment and delivered another disappointing display – looks like he needs a spell out of the team

6 PRITCHARD: The pick of Sunderland’s attacking players as he drifted in from the flank and tried to make something happen

4 Bellingham: Wasn’t a factor in the final third – isn’t hitting anything like the form he was displaying in the early weeks of the season

5 Clarke: Tended to run into a defender when he tried to cut inside, but at least kept on wanting to get on the ball

4 Rusyn: Offered nothing in the final third – another evening when Sunderland’s lead striker was found wanting

Subs:

Hemir (for Rusyn, 72)

Pembele (for Seelt, 81)

Ba (for Ekwah, 81)

HULL (4-3-3):

Allsop 6; COYLE 8, Jones 7, Greaves 8, Jacob 7; Morton 7, Docherty 6, Slater 6; Tufan 6 (Sharp 66, 6), Carvalho 7 (McLoughlin 83), Lokilo 6 (Sayyadmanesh 88).

Man Of The Match: LEWIE COYLE – Hull’s right-back made a decent fist of containing Clarke and was a threat when he broke forward.
