Sunderland return to action on Friday when they play their final game of 2023 against Rotherham United.

Here are all the details you need to know about the game…

WHERE IS THE GAME TAKING PLACE?

Having claimed a 1-0 victory at Hull City on Boxing Day, Sunderland are back on the road as they head to the New York Stadium to face Rotherham on Friday.

The Black Cats do not have a good recent away record against the Millers, with their last away win having in Rotherham having come in October 2004 when a goal from Dean Whitehead secured a 1-0 victory.

Last season’s game ended in a 2-1 defeat for Sunderland, with Joe Gelhardt scoring for the Black Cats after Oliver Rathbone and Shane Ferguson had already found the net for Rotherham.

WHAT TIME IS KICK-OFF?

Friday’s game kicks off at the usual midweek time of 7.45pm.

ARE TICKETS STILL AVAILABLE?

No – All tickets for the away end at the New York Stadium have been sold, with Sunderland having sold out their full allocation.

IS THE GAME BEING TELEVISED OR STREAMED LIVE?

No– Friday’s game has not been selected for live coverage on Sky Sports.

Live streaming is available on SAFC Live via Sunderland’s official website.

Radio coverage of Friday’s game will be available on BBC Radio Newcastle. The Northern Echo’s Chief Sports Writer, Scott Wilson, will be at the New York Stadium producing a live blog, report, ratings, reaction and analysis on The Northern Echo’s website.

WHAT IS SUNDERLAND’S LIKELY LINE-UP?

Bradley Dack is expected to be unavailable for Friday’s game after he was forced off during the Boxing Day win at Hull City because of a hamstring injury.

Niall Huggins missed out at the MKM Stadium, and the defender is facing a lengthy lay-off after he was stretchered off during last weekend’s defeat to Coventry City.

Adil Aouchiche and Alex Pritchard were substitutes against Hull, and both are pushing for a start against Rotherham.

Michael Beale has opted not to name a natural centre-forward in either of his matches in charge so far, so there is every chance Nazariy Rusyn, Mason Burstow and Eliezer Mayenda could once again find themselves on the bench.

Sunderland (probable, 4-2-3-1): Patterson; Seelt, O’Nien, Ballard, Hume; Neil, Ekwah; Roberts, Bellingham, Clarke; Pritchard.

HOW ARE ROTHERHAM SHAPING UP?

Rotherham head into Friday’s game rooted to the foot of the Championship table, however they wll have been boosted by their Boxing Day win over Middlesbrough.

Cohen Bramall scored the only goal of the game in the second half as the Millers saw off Michael Carrick’s side to claim their first win since October.

Rotherham are without a number of senior absentees, none of whom are expected to be available for the visit of Sunderland.

Cameron Humphreys, Tyler Blackett, Lee Peltier, Grant Hall, Fred Onyedinma, Andre Green and Shane Ferguson are all currently sidelined, so Leam Richardson looks likely to name the same side that started against Boro on Boxing Day.

Rotherham (probable, 5-3-2): Johansson; Lembikisa, Odoffin, Morrison, Revan, Bramall; Lindsay, Tiehi, Rathbone; Hugill, Nombe.
