How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest?
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
4 Dubravka: Made a couple of decent saves, but was beaten far too easily whenever he left his goalline
3 Trippier: The full-back’s alarming dip in form continues – put his team-mates under pressure on a number of occasions with poor passes
5 Schar: Tried to hold things together at the heart of the Newcastle defence, but was fighting a losing battle given Forest’s dominance
4 Botman: Is clearly still lacking sharpness following his lengthy injury absence – couldn’t contain the Forest attack
3 Burn: Had a wretched afternoon against Elanga – was beaten on countless occasions before he was hauled off early in the second half
4 Longstaff: Offered very little in possession and was part of a completely dysfunctional Newcastle midfield
4 Guimaraes: Couldn’t stem the flow of Forest attacks – was way out of position on countless occasions as the opposition broke
6 MILEY: The pick of the Newcastle side by a distance, driving forward and threading through passes – helped set up the penalty
3 Almiron: Chose the wrong option on countless occasion, most notably when his error sparked the counter-attack that led to Forest’s opener
5 Isak: Held his nerve to roll home the spot-kick, but dropped out of the game completely in the second half
4 Gordon: Never really looked like threatening the Forest goal – the quality of his crossing was extremely mixed
Subs:
4 Wilson (for Almiron, 54): Couldn’t turn things around after being brought on in the second half
4 Livramento (for Burn, 54): Got himself into a poor position for Wood’s hat-trick goal – but should almost certainly have started the game
Joelinton (for Longstaff, 71)
Hall (for Botman, 76)
(not used): Karius (gk), Dummett, Krafth, Ritchie, A Murphy.
NOTTM FOREST (4-2-3-1):
Turner 6; Aina 6, Murillo 7, Niakhate 7, Montiel 6 (Williams 69, 6); Danilo 7 (Kouyate 89), Sangare 6 (Yates 69, 5); Hudson-Odoi 7 (Dominguez 76), Gibbs-White 8, ELANGA 8 (Worrall 89); WOOD 9.
Subs (not used): Vlachodimos (gk), Tavares, Mangala, Origi.
Man Of The Match: CHRIS WOOD – Forest’s hat-trick hero could not have made a better return to St James’ Park.
