LEAM RICHARDSON is confident his Rotherham United side will come out fighting when they host Middlesbrough at the New York Stadium tomorrow.

The Millers are rooted to the foot of the Championship table, nine points adrift of safety, after suffering a 3-0 defeat to league leaders Leicester City on Saturday.

That loss extended Rotherham’s winless run in the league to 11 matches, and means Richardson has now lost all three of his matches since being appointed as the club’s manager.

The former Wigan boss accepts he has inherited an extremely difficult situation, but is confident his side will carry on fighting, starting with tomorrow’s home game against Boro.

“It’s a challenging league and a challenging position that we’re in, but one of the things we can guarantee is that we’ll make a right good fist of it,” said Richardson.

“It’s my job to build a habit and instil a mentality within the training ground that filters out onto the pitch, if we do that, we’ll make a fist of it.

“You can go into any football club and have an ideal way of playing and what you want to do and force things on the players.

“The best thing to do is find the good attributes you’ve got within the group and try and bring them to the front as quick as you can and build from that platform.

“Every game we’ve got to try and deliver a performance, there’s a lot of work to do and a lot of things that need to happen to move forward.

“Everything is a habit, winning is a habit, losing is a habit, if you’ve got bad habits you’ll serve for them but if you’ve got strong habits they’ll come to the front and that’s what we need to change.”

Rotherham are set to name former Boro striker Jordan Hugill in their starting line-up tomorrow afternoon, with the Teessider having scored three goals in 25 appearances this season.

The Millers have only won once since the first week of September, but they beat Boro in the final month of last season when Anfernee Dijskteel’s red card reduced their opponents to ten men.

In fact, Boro have only won two of their last seven matches against Rotherham, with their most recent victory having come courtesy of goals from George Saville and Chuba Akpom in April 2021.
