MICHAEL Carrick has told Calum Kavanagh he'll be "in business" if the striker continues his prolific goalscoring form.

The young striker has impressed for Middlesbrough's Under-21s and scored every goal in a 4-0 win at Crystal Palace last week - with his dazzling showing rewarded with his first call-up to the senior team under Carrick.

Kavanagh - the son of former Boro midfielder Graham - was included on the bench at Swansea on Saturday and although the striker didn't get on the pitch, Carrick said the youngster will have benefited enormously from his involvement.

"It's part of the development for young boys, rewarding them for good play," said Carrick.

"Law (McCabe) has had a bit of time of it of late, Fin (Cartwright) has, Daniel (Nkrumah) was on the bench again, fantastic, and Kav was He didn't get on the pitch but the experience will do wonders for him.

"That's the ultimate. Sometimes there needs to be a space. Timing is important for the young lads. It's OK us saying they'll get a chance but they have to be better than who's in the first team, that's the natural thing. But any time we do that, I'm delighted to see the young boys get the experience."

Carrick added: "I've never scored four in a game since I was Under-14. Goalscoring is an art and if you have the knack of doing that you're in business."
