MICHAEL CARRICK claims Morgan Rogers is “showing what he is capable of” after the Middlesbrough forward scored two crucial goals in the space of a fortnight.

Rogers fired home a dramatic late winner against Birmingham City earlier this month, and the summer signing from Manchester City was at it again as his second-half performance proved crucial in Boro’s 3-2 win at Exeter City in the Carabao Cup fourth round last night.

With Boro trailing to Ryan Trevitt’s first-half strike, Rogers got Boro back on level terms when he fired home a superb finish from the corner of the penalty area at the start of the second half.

And after causing a succession of problems to the Exeter defence throughout the second period, Rogers was at the heart of the incident that led to Boro’s late winner as his shirt was pulled by Trevitt, enabling Emmanuel Latte Lath to fire home from the penalty spot.

Carrick said: “It’s exactly what we want. I’m fully aware of what the boys are capable of – Morgan obviously scored the winner against Birmingham as well last week.

“He’s got another big goal here, and he’s doing what we know he can do. He’s showing what he’s capable of, and there’s even more to come from him.

“It’s great to see. He’s been patient because he probably hasn’t had as much football, minutes wise, as he would have liked over the last month or so.

“Timing is everything though, and you can see he’s starting to come. He’s making a difference. It was a fantastic goal, a massive goal at that point of the game to give us the lift we needed. I’m really pleased for him, he did really well.”
