ALEXANDER ISAK cannot wait to experience a Champions League night at St James’ Park – and is confident Newcastle United are capable of competing on four different fronts this season.

After an absence of more than two decades, Champions League action returns to Tyneside on Wednesday when Newcastle host French champions Paris St Germain.

The atmosphere at St James’ is set to be spine-tingling, and after being roared on by more than 4,000 travelling fans in the San Siro last month, Isak is expecting an unforgettable evening in front a sold-out home crowd.

“I can’t wait,” said Isak, who scored Newcastle’s second goal from the penalty spot as they beat Burnley 2-0 at the weekend. “I know it’s going to be brilliant. I can just imagine what it’s going to be like, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Having beaten Manchester City in the third round of the Carabao Cup last week, Newcastle continue to compete on four different fronts this season.

That inevitably brings its challenges, especially with the club’s injury problems mounting, but Isak is confident he and his team-mates can cope with the demands that are being placed on them.

“We have a lot of competitions, and we want to compete in all of them,” said the Swede, in an interview with NUFC TV. “We’re in a good run now, in good form, so hopefully we can keep it going on Wednesday.

“You always prefer a bit of time to rest between matches, but if it’s going to be like this, then it’s a good time when you’re in good form and winning games. I think, for us, it’s really positive.”

Isak started back-to-back matches last week with his fellow forward, Callum Wilson, unavailable because of injury.

Having scored the winner against Manchester City, he found the net again against Burnley, and now boasts three goals from his last three games.

“I’ve not really felt any extra pressure,” he said. “We know we have squad depth in all of our positions. People are going to be unavailable for matches sometimes, but then it’s just for other people to step up.

“I had a few chances (against Burnley) and maybe the sharpness wasn’t really there. There were a few I should have scored, but I got my chance from the penalty spot and was happy with the goal.

“I felt quite calm with the penalty. It might not be as calm as it looks sometimes, but I felt confident and good, and was happy to see the ball end up in the back of the net.”
