NEWCASTLE CEO Darren Eales says the Magpies will relish the challenge of the Champions League "group of death" - and promises there'll be no fear on Tyneside, with United confident they can "compete with the best".

Newcastle were welcomed back to Europe's top table with the toughest of draws, with Eddie Howe's side set to face PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

There's only excitement rather than any apprehension at St James' Park, however, with Eales urging Newcastle's fans to "dream".

Speaking from Monaco after the draw was made, Eales said: "It's the group of death isn't it? Newcastle fans will be excited to play against PSG, Dortmund's yellow wall and then AC Milan and Sandro Tonali's link.

"It is going to be exciting. PSG are footballing royalty, Dortmund are amazing and both fanbases will bond with each other and that first Champions League night when the music is playing will be really special.

"We are really excited. Twenty years is a long time, not being in the Champions League and this is something from a great season last term. We are not just here to make up the numbers. We want to compete on all fronts.

"We have six big games ahead of us and a great head coach in Eddie Howe. We really want to give it our all. We're in it and we want our fans to dream now. We want a group that they can get excited about.

"We feel we have the players and the coaching staff and the set up to compete with all the best teams. It will be tough but we will give it our best."

Speaking to TNT Sport, Eales was also asked for a transfer update and suggested there'll be no deadline day surprises on Tyneside.

He said: "We are pretty much set with what we've done. We are excited with the additions we got in this transfer window. We feel we have a great squad that can compete in this competition."
