MICHAEL Carrick says Sam Greenwood will offer Middlesbrough "greater flexibility" in the forward line after the attacker completed his move from Leeds United.

The 21-year-old has joined Boro on a season-long loan.

Greenwood is comfortable across the forward line, has played as a striker and also as a central midfielder for Leeds.

The Sunderland-born forward joined Arsenal from his hometown club when he was 16 before signing for Leeds in 2020. He was handed his debut by Marcelo Bielsa and played 35 games for Leeds.

Carrick said: “Sam is a really talented player. He’s two-footed and he gives us greater flexibility.

“We’re looking forward to working with both him and Lewis O’Brien, and helping them develop as players.”
