MIDDLESBROUGH are hoping for a busy and productive end to the summer transfer window, with the club targeting three signings before next week's deadline.

Boro have already made nine signings this summer, but are understood to be in the market for a central midfielder, an attacking midfielder and a striker to further bolster Michael Carrick's squad.

The priority - as has been the case throughout the window - is to make permanent signings, with Boro keen to avoid a repeat of this summer where they had to replace several loan players, who were key men last season.

But Boro have monitored the Premier League loan market over the course of the summer and there's the potential of one temporary addition arriving before next Friday's deadline.

Boro last week completed the capture of Emmanuel Latte Lath, who enjoyed an impressive debut against Huddersfield Town on Saturday, but the club don't want to leave themselves short up-front and are looking to bring in another striker.

If another frontman does arrive, Boro are likely to sanction another loan move for Josh Coburn.

Boro are also in the market for an attacking midfield player after Chuba Akpom, who starred in the No.10 role last season, left for Ajax last week.

Bolstering the midfield is also a priority, with Boro keen to ensure they have the depth to cope with a relentless Championship campaign. Alex Mowatt, who was an extremely useful figure in the squad last season and was needed as crucial cover for Jonny Howson, returned to West Brom at the end of his loan spell and hasn't yet been replaced.

Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara - who is out in the cold at Ibrox - is one of a number of midfielders who has been on Boro's radar this summer, but there's always been an acceptance on Teesside that that would be a difficult deal to do. Reports in recent days suggest the 27-year-old is closing in on a £5m-plus move to Leeds United.

Isaac Hayden, who doesn't feature in Eddie Howe's plans at Newcastle and is currently training with the Under-21s, was yesterday linked with Boro, with Millwall, QPR and Saturday's opponents West Brom also interested, according to reports.

It's not clear at this stage whether Boro will receive any firm bids for any of their players between now and the end of the window. Paddy McNair - who is in the last year of his contract - has been linked with clubs including Leeds United and Luton over the course of the summer.

There's no shortage of interest in Coburn if Boro give the green light to another loan move for the striker, who spent last season with Bristol Rovers and signed a new long-term deal on Teesside earlier this summer.

Discussing the plan for Coburn earlier this month, Carrick said: “It’s a little bit dependent on other things. I think we’ve got a clear idea – well, we’ve definitely got a clear idea of what the plan is for Josh.

"We know what we want it to look like. But there are a couple of ifs and buts in that, as you’d expect at this stage of the summer. We’ve certainly got a plan of what we want to happen though, and hopefully it will play out like that.”
