CHUBA AKPOM has issued a farewell message to Middlesbrough supporters after his move to Ajax was confirmed.

Akpom, who had entered the final year of his contract at the Riverside, has moved to the Eredivisie side in a deal that is reported on Ajax’s official website as involving an initial payment of €12.3m with a further €2m of potential add-ons.

The forward, who was the leading scorer in the Championship last season, has signed a five-year deal with Ajax that runs to the summer of 2028.

After joining Boro from Greek side PAOK Salonika, Akpom made a total of 82 senior appearances for the Teessiders, scoring 34 goals.

“I’d like to thank everyone connected with Boro, and especially a big thanks to the fans for the support and live they have given me,” said Akpom, who could make his Ajax debut in Saturday’s Eredivisie game against Excelsior.
