Middlesbrough FC has donated equipment to a nearby club after it was the victim of a suspected arson attack this week.  

Thornaby Football Club, in Stockton-on-Tees, a beloved community football club, has launched a fundraising page after their ground was the subject of a suspected arson attack on Monday (June 26). 

The club sustained an estimated £130,000 of damage as the fire blazed. 

Trevor Wing, chief executive of Thornaby Football Club, has launched a fundraiser on behalf of the club after large parts of Teesdale Park were destroyed.

A stand, disabled area, electronic equipment, gardening tools, a tractor, seats, and goals were destroyed in the blaze.

But now Middlesbrough FC has donated equipment, furniture and items for fundraising to the EBAC Northern League club so they can continue playing. 

In a statement, Middlesbrough FC said: "Everyone at the club was saddened to see the news about the suspected arson attack at Thornaby FC last weekend.

"The offices, goalposts, clubhouse and picnic area at the club's Teesdale Park ground have all been damaged by the fire, and stalwart club chief executive Trevor Wing estimates the blaze caused £130,000 worth of damage to the home of the EBAC Northern League club.

"The club were due to kick off their pre-season campaign against Darlington United on Saturday, and MFC are supplying a set of roll-on goals so the club can start to play matches in the short term.

"We shall also be supplying some items for fundraising and donating some furniture to support the club’s campaign.

"We’d urge all our fans to please show support for Thornaby FC after what appears to be a disgraceful act of vandalism by visiting their GoFundMe page."
