SUNDERLAND will kick off the new Championship season with a home game against Ipswich Town.

Ipswich, who are returning to the second tier after winning promotion from League One last season, will visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday, August 6 for a 5pm kick-off, with the game being televised live on Sky Sports.

The Black Cats' first away game of the season takes them to Deepdale to face Preston on August 12, with the game a repeat of the match on the final day of last season that saw Sunderland win to cement their place in the play-offs.

August is completed with a home game against Rotherham United and a trip to Coventry City.

The first North-East derby of the season takes place on October 7, with Middlesbrough visiting the Stadium of Light, with the home game against Leeds United scheduled for December 12.

Sunderland are away on Boxing Day, travelling to Hull City, and round off the year with a trip to the New York Stadium to take on Rotherham United on December 29.

The new year begins with a New Year's Day home game against Preston, with Sunderland heading to Teesside to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside on February 3.

Tony Mowbray's side head to Elland Road to face Leeds on April 9, and Sunderland's final away game of the season sees them travel to Vicarage Road to face Watford on April 27.

The season concludes on Saturday, May 4 with Sunderland hosting Sheffield Wednesday at the Stadium of Light.
