How did the players fare in Middlesbrough's goalless draw with Coventry City?

COVENTRY (3-5-2):

Wilson 7; McNally 7, McFadzean 7, DOYLE 8; Norton-Cuffy 6, Hamer 6, Kelly 5, Eccles 6 (Allen 67, 5), Bidwell 6; Godden 5, Gyokeres 5.

Subs (not used): Moore (gk), Panzo, Wilson-Esbrand, Sheaf, Maguire, Dabo.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1):

7 Steffen: Didn’t face a single shot on target, but mopped up effectively when the ball was played behind the Boro backline

7 Smith: Kept things nice and solid down the right-hand side – it is easy to see why Carrick values his presence so highly

8 McNAIR: Did a superb job against Gyokeres, sticking closely to the Swede and blocking the couple of efforts he managed to muster

8 Lenihan: Was every bit as impressive as the player playing alongside him – was never out of position in the final third

7 Giles: Had to temper some of his attacking instincts to ensure Boro were not left short at the back – will be more adventurous on Wednesday

7 Mowatt: Ensured Howson was not missed with a composed and effective display at the heart of midfield

7 Hackney: Was the best player on the pitch in the first half, and performed a more defensive impressively in the second

6 Jones: Put the ball in the net from a marginally offside position before the break, but struggled to get into the game in the second half before he was subbed

7 Akpom: Came closest with a first-half effort that was deflected onto the crossbar and also threatened with a second-half header

6 McGree: Played a couple of incisive first-half passes, but wasn’t able to offer a sustained attacking threat

6 Archer: Never stopped working, but this wasn’t really a day when he was able to seriously threaten in the 18-yard box

Subs:

5 Forss (for Jones, 68): Made a welcome return from injury in the final quarter of the game

Crooks (for Archer, 82)

(not used): Roberts (gk), Fry, Dijksteel, Bola, Barlaser.

Man Of The Match: PADDY McNAIR – The Middlesbrough defender was always in the right position to ensure Gyokeres endured a frustrating afternoon.
