A football fan has proudly showed off his mushy peas sandwich – but a lot of people are horrified and put off by the combination he bought himself.

If you take a trip to Marske United's football ground, you can get served with a humble mushy pea sandwich.

The club was recently visited by The Oldham Groundhopper, a football fan turned blogger who travels to visit stadiums all over the UK.

After arriving at the stadium, the blogger uploaded a picture of his lunch to Facebook – a portion of mushy peas with a white bread bun, for £1.50.

Showing off his match day meal, The Oldham Groundhopper wrote: “Mushy Peas and a bit of bread at Marske United! £1.50, adding he would allow the meal to be “slated”.

In response, one shocked foodie wrote: “Oh. My. God. I’d pay £1.50 not to have to look at this.”

Another left a savage comment saying: “I wouldn’t give that to the dog.”

A third commented: “That looks absolutely horrible.”

However, others were more complimentary of the dish, with one person saying: “Mushy peas are food of the Gods and a meal in themselves. Cracking food and great value. There is a stall on Norwich Market that just sells mushy peas and it does a roaring trade.”

Some suggested adding mint sauce or vinegar to the mushy peas was the way to go. One person commented: “Can’t beat a mushy pea buttie with some mint sauce or vinegar on.”

Another agreed, saying: “All that needs is a bit of mint sauce.”

“I love a mushy pea sarnie,” said another.

Whilst another said: “Quid and a half? It would fill you up, bargain I’d say. With a bit of mint sauce…champion!”
