SUNDERLAND have received another major boost in their bid to make the Championship's top six, with rivals West Brom losing 2-0 at Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

With Blackburn having lost to rivals Burnley 24 hours earlier, Sunderland remain in the play-off places with two games to play and now know exactly what's required with all their rivals having played their games in hand.

If the Black Cats can win their last two games against Watford and Preston, they're almost certain to secure a place in the play-offs.

The only thing that would stop them is if Millwall also pick up maximum points and significantly boost their goal difference in the process. They're currently three goals worse off than Sunderland. Sunderland's goal difference is +10 compared to Millwall's +7.

The Lions travel to Blackpool on Friday night before hosting Blackburn on the final weekend of the season.

Blackburn are also on the same points as Sunderland and Millwall, but with a goal difference of -3, they need slip-ups from those above. They play Luton this weekend.

West Brom and Preston are both two points back.

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray is speaking to the press on Thursday afternoon ahead of Saturday's visit of Watford.
