THE battle for second place has been the major talking point in the Championship promotion race in recent weeks - with Burnley away and gone at the top.

For some time now, it's been inevitable that the Clarets would secure an immediate return to the top flight in Vincent Kompany's first season in charge.

And they can actually win promotion on Good Friday - but only if results go their way.

To go up at the Riverside, Burnley need fourth-placed Luton Town to lose to Millwall in the early kick-off. They would then need to beat Boro at the Riverside - something no team has done since Michael Carrick's appointment - to secure promotion.

If Luton were to win and/or Burnley fail to win at the Riverside, then it moves on to Easter Monday, when the Clarets face Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

The Blades will be looking to open a nine-point gap on Middlesbrough when they host struggling Wigan on Friday at 3pm, with Boro's game against Burnley not kicking off until 8pm.

Boro then travel to Bristol City on Monday for another televised game (5.30pm kick-off), while Luton are at home to struggling Blackpool.
