7 Patterson: Protected brilliantly by defenders in front but never flustered.

7 Hume: Superb first half tackle to deny Sara. Kept his cool in the second half after getting booked.

8 Batth: Towering defensive performance by the captain, who led by example. String of brilliant blocks in second half.

8 Ballard: Like Batth alongside him, immense, particularly in the second half. Limited Norwich’s frustrated attackers to half chances.

8 O’Nien: Superb return to the starting XI. Bang up for it. Used all of his experience in the second half.

7 Michut: Disciplined and mature midfield performance.

8 Neil: Such a mature midfield performance. Won the battle against Sara. Class on the ball and tireless without it.

7 Roberts: Played a part in the goal, constant threat in the second half.

7 Ba: Bright and a real threat in the first half. Took his goal brilliantly.

7 Clarke: Tireless display on the left. Helped O’Nien defensively and always offered the out-ball.

8 Gelhardt: Should have scored when he missed a glorious chance just after the opener but that was the only black mark on an otherwise excellent forward display, his best in a Sunderland shirt.
