MIDDLESBROUGH defender Anfernee Dijksteel has earned a maiden international call-up to the Suriname squad.

Having been born in Amsterdam, Dijksteel represented the Netherlands at Under-20 level.

However, he is of Surinamese descent, and has opted to represent the South American nation at senior international level.

The 26-year-old has been called up to the Suriname squad for this month's CONCACAF Nations League match against Mexico in the Surinamese capital of Paramaribo.

Dijksteel has made 18 senior appearances for Middlesbrough this season, although he has not featured since leaving the bench in January's 2-0 victory over Watford.
