MICHAEL Carrick says Middlesbrough won't get carried away after their superb victory at Sheffield United and insists he's not yet interested in the league table.

Carrick was asked whether Boro can catch second placed Sheffield United after his side came from behind to win 3-1 at Bramall Lane - a victory that closes the gap to the automatic promotion spots to seven points, though the Blades still have a game in hand.

"What will be will be," he said.

"It's just a case of playing games. Yeah, we managed to beat them tonight but they're a terrific team with so many threats and so many good things in their team.

"We won't get carried away about the league position at all just yet. It's more about the performance. It's up to us to enjoy it, then come tomorrow look at the next game and be ready for Saturday because that's how it is, that's the business we're in."

Further pressed on Boro's hopes of catching the Blades, Carrick said: "I’ll let everyone else judge that.

"We’ve not really spoken about it at this stage because I’m not really interested in it at this stage. I’m interested in performances and results and each game as they come along. There is no point in getting carried away with ifs and buts at this stage."

Boro got off to a nightmare start at Bramall Lane as Oli McBurnie headed Sheffield United into a fifth minute lead, but Carrick's side roared back, with Chuba Akpom levelling in the first half before a second half brace from Cameron Archer.

It's Boro's fourth win on the bounce and their ninth in 11 games.

Carrick said: "I'm proud of the lads, immensely proud of the whole group.

"The belief they showed, even when they went 1-0 down, it was a big challenge coming here. Forget the league position, it wasn't about that, it was about coming up against a team who's playing really well, a good team on a great run, and a tough place to come.

"It was a big challenge, going a goal down made it even bigger but I thought the lads went up levels tonight in terms of the belief, confidence and quality of the play. I'm just really proud of them.

"I've talked a lot about the spirit in the group. It's easy to have that when you're up in games, but there's not many tougher tests than what we faced tonight and the boys responded incredibly well.

"As the game went on, some of the football was top drawer and we caused them problems, looked dangerous. It was a real complete team performance in the end. I'm just proud of the way the boys went about it in the end, the fact we did have to show that reaction and belief and we stuck together.

"It's easy to take the safe route, but the lads believed in themselves and it showed."

Carrick joined the players and staff on the pitch to celebrate at full-time, fist pumping the away supporters.

He said: "Obviously the supporters behind the goal were incredible again all night and we've given them a lot to enjoy again."
