MIDDLESBROUGH are set to wave goodbye to Duncan Watmore today, with the forward having spent yesterday in discussions with Millwall.

Watmore's current Boro deal is due to expire at the end of the season, and with his future beyond the summer uncertain, the offer of a longer-term contract from Millwall understandably appealed to the 28-year-old.

That deal has been at an advanced stage for 10 days but, interestingly, reports from the capital claim Millwall had to wait until Boro had lined up a replacement before the move could be sanctioned.

Boro have been in the market for a wide attacker all month, though strengthening in attack and midfield was always the priority.

There are a couple of targets still very much alive - although Rotherham's Chiedozie Ogebene, who has been linked with a possible move to the Riverside all month, is understood to be off the table.

Boro would also like to engineer the departure of Rodrigo Muniz today, but it's a complicated one.

Muniz signed a season-long loan when he joined Boro from Fulham in the summer, but he has fallen out of favour under Carrick and did not even feature in Boro's matchday squad against Watford at the weekend.

Fulham will only allow Boro to end Muniz's loan arrangement if he can be loaned out somewhere else in the second half of the season. The two clubs have been in discussions in the last couple of days, and are hopeful something can be arranged before 11pm tonight.

There has been permanent interest in Muniz, but Fulham are understood to prefer a loan and, ideally, for the 21-year-old to stay in England. Whether that stance (the destination rather than the type of deal) softens as the day goes on remains to be seen.

Marco Silva was asked about Muniz's situation at the weekend but refused to be drawn on his plans for the striker.

Boro aren't expecting any other high profile exits ahead of tonight's deadline.
