Darlington are on the verge of losing leading scorer Mark Beck.

Solihull Moors have met the release clause in the 29-year-old’s contract and are understood to have offered lucrative personal terms to the Sunderland-based forward.

Beck is the National League North’s top scorer with 15 goals after returning to Quakers last summer for his second spell at the club after leaving Harrogate Town.

He was previously brought to Blackwell by Martin Gray in 2016 and stayed for just over a season before joining Harrogate, whom he helped win promotion from the National League.

Solihull will hope he can help them do the same – they are 13th, six points off the play-offs.

While it is hoped Beck opts to stay at Blackwell, his exit would be a hammer blow for Quakers. They are third in the table and poised for a play-off push in the second half of the season, and are at home to Spennymoor Town on Saturday.

It is deeply disappointing for the fans, who last year raised over £136,861 as part of the Boost the Budget scheme. The team they funded was top the table at Christmas with Beck part of a potent attack alongside Jacob Hazel with Jack Lambert also in top form.

It is also frustrating for manager Alun Armstrong – key players leaving the club has become an unwelcome theme in his time as manager.

Justin Donawa, Erico Sousa, Adam Campell, Kevin Dos Santos, Luke Charman and Will Hatfield were all spotted and signed by Armstrong, performing well in Quakers colours before moving on after being offered better deals and full-time football elsewhere.

Beck looks likely to join that list and there are fears that playmaker Lambert, out of contract in the summer, will be the next to go.
