Two members of Middlesbrough's backroom team have joined together with staff from clubs across the country in taking part in a month-long endurance challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Boro's head physio Chris Moseley and head of athletic development Nick Allamby are now more than halfway through their mammoth November effort, which sees the pair tackle a daily distance challenge and help to raise funds in the fight to beat prostate cancer.

Nick is running 10k a day every day throughout November, while Chris is hitting that daily total on the cross trainer or covering 25k a day on the bike.

The Prostate United challenge was set up in 2018 by Rotherham United's head of performance and medical Stephen Gilpin and Ross Burbeary, who is now head of performance at Lincoln City. The pair were inspired to lace up their running trainers and raise money after the death of Stephen’s grandfather, Norman, who'd battled the disease.

The fundraiser has since grown, with staff from football clubs across the country getting involved - and Boro's duo are playing their part. They've already raised more than £1,000 this month.

"It's going well, we're just ticking the days off," Nick told The Northern Echo.

"It's brilliant to be able to help to play a part in raising money and awareness and joining in with what is a fantastic challenge for a great cause.

"There's also a great feeling of togetherness with so many members of staff from football clubs across the country taking part."

When the fundraiser was initially launched, the challenge was to run 10k or cycle 25k every day, but there are now alternate distances to make it more accessible. Fundraisers can also run 5k or cycle 15k every day, or run 3k or cycle 10k every day.

Last year 330 fundraisers take part in the challenge and since its launch in 2018 more than quarter of a million pound has been raised.
