STEVE Harmison took the second hat-trick of his first-class career to strengthen Durham's victory bid over defending champions Sussex in the LV County Championship at Hove.
After being overlooked by England on Sunday morning, the Ashington Express raced down the slope to reduce Sussex to 138 for eight in their second innings - a lead of only 51.
Harmison had Rory Hamilton-Brown caught behind and Robin Martin-Jenkins was also taken at the wicket trying to defend before former Pakistan leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed was comprehensively bowled.
It was the first hat-trick at Hove since Sussex left-arm swing bowler Jason Lewry achieved the feat in 2001.
