FORMER Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is on Boro’s radar to become their new head coach with the club keen to hold talks.

After his retirement from playing in 2018, Carrick was appointed as part of the coaching staff at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho. He also had a three game stint in caretaker charge following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year.

The former England international has been linked with numerous jobs since his departure from Old Trafford and has made no secret of his desire to get into football management.

Whilst Boro are using their time constructively, the hierarcy are understood to be keen to push through an appointment early next week with a meeting scheduled on Monday with the coaching staff to discuss the current state of play.

Carrick fits the mould of an appointment Steve Gibson would like to make with the club keen to employ a head coach that would work under the club’s Head of Football Kieran Scott.

The bookmakers odds for Carrick to be appointed as Boro boss tumbled earlier today and he is now the current favourite to take over.

Boro are on the search for a new manager following the sacking of Chris Wilder on Monday. Leo Percovich remains in interim charge for this weekend’s trip to Millwall.
