TALKSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has dismissed the idea that Rob Edwards should be a candidate for the vacant managerial position at Middlesbrough.

Chris Wilder lost his job as Boro boss this morning, with the Teessiders struggling in 22nd position in the Championship table.

Edwards is the bookmakers' favourite to succeed Wilder on Teesside, with the 39-year-old understood to be a leading candidate for the role.

Having guided Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title last season, Edwards was appointed as Watford's new manager earlier this summer.

However, he lasted just ten games before he was sacked, with the hierarchy at Vicarage Road turning to Slaven Bilic instead.

Jordan, who is a former owner of Crystal Palace, said: "Walk me through that - how does Rob Edwards become a contender?

"He’s been booted out of Watford because he’s not doing a particularly good job there.

“He did a good job at Forest Green Rovers but didn’t show any particular kind of loyalty as he left them at the first opportunity.

"It beggar's belief. Why would he be in contention for the Middlesbrough job?”
