CARLOS Edwards expects the thrill of facing England will guarantee an impressive performance in Sunday's international friendly in Trinidad & Tobago.

The Sunderland midfielder trained with the rest of the Trinidad & Tobago squad yesterday in preparation for this weekend's game at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, a match billed as the biggest in the Caribbean nation's history.

Edwards played the full 90 minutes as Trinidad & Tobago suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of England in the group stages of the 2006 World Cup.

And as Edwards prepares for the second meeting between the two sides, he is confident the size of the occasion will enable him to raise the standard of his performance once again.

"It will be nice to face these guys on home soil," said the 29- year-old winger. "I have been playing in England for around eight or nine years so having them over here to play against us is going to be massive.

"I will have no choice but to up my game a notch and hopefully we can get a positive result.

"I know England definitely will be coming here to put on a good show because their players are playing for a pick for their World Cup qualifiers.

"This game has a lot of interest in it. It is not just for the team, but for the country as a whole."

Kenwyne Jones' participation in Sunday's game continues to hang in the balance, with the Sunderland striker having been unable to play a full part in yesterday's training session.

Jones is nursing a fractured wrist he sustained in this month's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, but had been training with the support of a protective brace at the start of the week.

Continued pain has forced him to scale down his training schedule, but Trinidad & Tobago officials remain hopeful his progress over the next 48 hours will enable him to make the starting line-up for this weekend's game.
