HARTLEPOOL United are yet to win a game in League Two this season but confidence is high heading into Tuesday night’s tie against Doncaster Rovers after their comeback draw against Mansfield.

Pools fell behind in the early stages of the second half thanks to a goal from Josh Lapslie before Riley Harbottle doubled the Stags lead just before the hour mark.

Umerah seized upon a mistake in the Mansfield defence to round the keeper and pull a goal back and give Pools a lifeline. The striker then notched his fifth goal of the season in the 89th minute with a smart finish inside the box to salvage a point.

Pools remain in the bottom two on goal difference but the result maintained Keith Curle’s unbeaten start as interim boss. He wants to see the same endeavour when they welcome Gary McSheffrey’s men to the Suit Direct Stadium.

He told BBC Radio Tees Sport: “We showed fighting spirit, quality, willingness and a desire to keep going. They are all attributes that we are going to need. We know where we are at.

“Being able to go toe-to-toe with a team at home with a fantastic record. Good club with good players, consistency within the football club and we’ve competed.”

Umerah’s brace at Field Mill put him on five goals for the season as he tops the club’s goalscoring charts. After adding to his tally on Friday night, the 25-year-old admits the performance could be the catalyst that turns their form around.

The summer signing from Wealdstone said: “I can’t tell you about anyone in that changing room that I look at and think ‘you don’t fancy it today’. Everyone is up for it every single day.

“A lot of the players are determined to get out of the position that we are in right now including myself. I believe we can. Hopefully, it takes a turn for the better sooner or later.”

Curle was in attendance for Doncaster Rovers 2-1 win against Rochdale at the weekend with the Pools interim boss swatting up on his opponents ahead of the game. Former Pools winger and last season’s top scorer Luke Molyneux started the game for Rovers and looks set to be involved at the Suit Direct Stadium.
