How did the players fare in Newcastle United's goalless draw with Brighton?

NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):

8 Pope: Made some crucial saves, the pick of which saw him claw away Lallana’s goal-bound header at the start of the second half

8 Trippier: Defended brilliantly all afternoon, and produced a superb first-half goalline clearance to ensure the scoresheet remained blank

7 Schar: Rock solid at the heart of Newcastle’s back four, and hacked clear in the second half when Veltman’s shot looked to be deflecting in

7 Botman: Produced an accomplished debut display and more than justified his place at the heart of the back four

8 BURN: Did brilliantly after being shuffled to left-back – stopped a goal when he made a brilliant last-ditch challenge on Welbeck

6 Willock: Displayed plenty of energy as he tried to break forward, although he was never really a factor in the Brighton box

6 Guimaraes: Wasn’t a day when he showcase his creative skills, but he buzzed around to great effect at the base of midfield

7 Joelinton: Had to sacrifice some of his attacking ambitions to help out his side, and delivered an excellent defensive-midfield display

6 Almiron: Never stopped running, although he was unable to make a difference on the rare occasions when he had the ball at his feet

6 Wilson: Did a lot of thankless running, but fired a decent first-half chance wide when he was onside even though the flag went up

5 Saint-Maximin: Got himself into some decent positions down the left, but repeatedly picked out a player in a Brighton shirt

Subs:

Murphy (for Saint-Maximin, 75)

S Longstaff (for Willock, 75)

Man Of The Match: DAN BURN – The former Brighton man will have enjoyed his return to the Amex as he played a key role in shutting out his former team-mates.
