Sunday’s game will be Boro’s second home game of the season having kicked the season off at the Riverside Stadium against West Brom.

Chris Wilder comes up against his former side in Sheffield United who he was in charge of for five years overseeing two promotions.

The last time the two teams met, Boro were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat back in March.

The game will kick off at 2pm on Sunday after being selected for television coverage.

HOW ARE MIDDLESBROUGH LIKELY TO LINE UP?

Having made wholesale changes for their midweek loss to Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, Chris Wilder is likely to make plenty of changes once again for a strong Blades side.

Darragh Lenihan will return from his one match suspension and is likely to be restored to the starting eleven. Matthew Hoppe will be available for the game having completed his move from Mallorca this week but is likely to be on the bench.

Boro have no other injury concerns apart from Josh Coburn who is ruled out for the next 6-8 weeks.

Boro (probable 3-5-2): Steffen; Dijksteel, Lenihan, McNair; Jones, Howson, Crooks, McGree, Giles; Forss, Akpom

HOW ARE SHEFFIELD UNITED SHAPING UP FOR THE GAME?

The Blades have had a difficult start to contend with losing against Watford on the opening day before being beaten at West Brom in the Carabao Cup.

However, they did seal a 2-0 home win against Millwall in their second league game.

Paul Heckingbottom led them to the play-offs where they were knocked out on penalties to Nottingham Forest, who went on to gain promotion to the Premier League.

Heckingbottom will check on midfielder Ben Osborn after he limped out of Thursday night’s cup defeat at West Brom.

Osborn, who had been introduced as a half-time replacement for John Fleck, came off with a hamstring problem and his condition will be assessed.

Sheff Utd XI (probable 3-4-3): Foderingham; Ahmedhodzic, Egan, Clark; Baldock, Norwood, Fleck, Norrington-Davies; Berge, N'Diaye, Brewster
