SUNDERLAND are not expecting any imminent signings but manager Alex Neil is confident of strengthening his squad before the end of the transfer window.

The Black Cats boss has been keen to add numbers having already brought in Daniel Ballard, Aji Alese, Jack Clarke and Ellis Simms to the club this summer but following summer departures, there is considered lack of depth to the squad.

Neil made eleven changes to his side in their midweek defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup but many of those players are not expected to feature in the Championship.

With less than three weeks to go until the window close, Neil is not expecting anyone through the door immediately with another midweek clash to come.

Ahead of this weekend’s game against Queens Park Rangers, Sunderland are not expecting any new signings through the door. Neil told the media this morning: “It's an ongoing process.
“It's one of those, sometimes you think you're almost getting there and suddenly it's not as close as you think.
“Then equally, I could walk out of this press conference and someone is on their way. That's pretty much what the transfer market is like.

“Listen, I'm confident we'll get players in before the window if that's the question, but no one is on their way up at the moment, shall we say.”

Meawhile, Leon Dajaku is expected to miss this weekend’s game at the Stadium of Light.

Ther German 21-year-old was ruled out of this midweek trips to Hillsborough but is not expected to return to action in time for tomorrow’s league tie.

I doubt Leon will be available, he's had a recurrence of his thigh problem” continued Neil. “As far as I'm aware, we have no other injury concerns.”
