DJED SPENCE has completed his move from Middlesbrough to Tottenham.

Both clubs have confirmed that one of the most protracted deals of the summer has now been finalised, with Spence having signed a lucrative five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 21-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, spelled out his determination to join Spurs at the start of the summer.

Negotiations dragged on for the best part of two months, but Boro eventually accepted a deal that is understood to be worth around £20m as a total package.

Significantly, by holding out for as long as possible, the Teessiders also ensured that the vast majority of the final transfer fee will be received as an up-front payment, something Spurs were initially unwilling to agree to.

A Middlesbrough statement said: "Djed Spence has completed his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

"The 21-year-old’s switch was finalised on Tuesday morning after he underwent a medical at the end of last week."

Spence, who is an England Under-21 international, leaves Teesside having made 70 senior Boro appearances.
