THE next week or ten days is when Middlesbrough fans can expect new signings to arrive at the club according to a confident Chris Wilder.

Boro’s last signing was confirmed nearly a month ago and are yet to add to their summer arrivals of Ryan Giles, Darragh Lenihan and Liam Roberts. Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen has been on Rockliffe for a medical ahead of a proposed loan move until the end of the season.

Wilder is keen to bolster his attacking ranks before the start of the season with Josh Coburn and Duncan Watmore making up his striking options. Boro are yet to replace Andraz Sporar, Aaron Connolly and Folarin Balogun since their departures in the summer whilst Uche Ikpeazu and Chuba Akpom have been told they can leave this summer.

Wilder cut a frustrated figure after their 3-0 friendly loss to Braga last Friday as he said: “There is a lot of things that people don’t understand what goes off on a pre-season trip that we haven’t achieved. We know that we have got to add players to this group.”

The need for new arrivals before the start of the season was apparent as Wilder continued: “Everybody at the club understands that and I’m confident that we will do over the next week or next ten days because we have to and the season starts in two weeks time. We will do and we’ll have better players through the door at the club and that will make us stronger.”

Dwight Gayle, Adam Armstrong and Viktor Gyokeres have all been discussed by Boro’s recruitment staff and talks have been held with their respective clubs. However, finances seem to be a major sticking point to a number of deals.

That being said, Boro are expected to receive a considerable cash windfall with Djed Spence’s move to Tottenham Hotspur on the verge of being rubber stamp. The financial package is understood to be worth up to £20 million with an up front fee of £15 million.

Recent reports suggested former Huddersfield Town midfielder and now free agent Aaron Mooy was being considered for a move. However, the 31-year-old now looks set to join Scottish giants Celtic on a free transfer.
