SUNDERLAND are set to miss out on one of their leading summer targets after Huddersfield Town agreed terms with AFC Wimbledon for midfielder Jack Rudoni.

The Black Cats have had two separate offers rejected for 21-year-old Rudoni, who has spent the whole of his senior career with Wimbledon.

Huddersfield’s initial bid for the midfielder was also turned down, but the Terriers have returned to the table with an offer that has now been accepted by the hierarchy at Plough Lane.

Rudoni is set to travel to West Yorkshire today to complete a medical and finalise the terms of a four-year deal at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Huddersfield are understood to be paying an initial fee of around £600,000 for the youngster, with the total deal potentially worth up to £1m if a series of add-on clauses are triggered.

Missing out on Rudoni is a blow to the Black Cats, with Alex Neil having identified the playmaker as a potentially useful creative asset.

Rudoni scored 12 league goals as Wimbledon were relegated from League One last season and was widely regarded to be his side’s best player.

Sunderland have recruited Daniel Ballard and Jack Clarke so far this summer, and have also re-signed Bailey Wright, Lynden Gooch and Patrick Roberts on new deals.

The Black Cats’ recruitment team continue to try to engineer a new loan deal for Nathan Broadhead, although Everton boss Frank Lampard is reluctant to lose any more attacking players until he is able to complete incoming deals of his own following the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham.

Sunderland have also made a loan offer for Troy Parrott, but the Tottenham forward has travelled to South Korea for a pre-season trip with the rest of Antonio Conte’s first-team squad.
