OLYMPIC medallist jockey Nicola Wilson has showed some encouraging signs of slowly recovering from a “devastating” injury after she was moved to the spinal cord rehabilitation unit at the James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough.

Wilson, who is based at Danby Wiske, near Northallerton, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol earlier this month after falling from horse JL Dublin at the Badminton Horse Trials.

The reigning European Eventing champion, who won a silver medal as part of the GB team at the 2012 Olympics in London, had previously spent the last several weeks in intensive care.

However, on Thursday (May 26), her social media page had an encouraging post for her fans – after confirming that she had been moved to the North East for further recovery.

A statement posted on Nicola Wilson Eventing read: “Today Nicola was moved into the spinal cord rehabilitation unit at the James Cook Hospital.

“We would like to thank everyone who has been so kind on the journey so far.

“The transfer team were a lovely crew who called in at our home to visit the horses on their way back to Bristol, Nic obviously had a bit of horse chat in the ambulance.

“Dublin has his photo taken with the ambulance, which he loved.”
