NEWCASTLE United winger Ryan Fraser is doubtful for their trip to Turf Moor this weekend ahead of their final Premier League game of the season against Burnley.

The 28-year-old has been struggling in recent weeks with a hamstring injury with head coach Eddie Howe confirming that he has been playing through the pain barrier.

“Ryan Fraser might be out of the game” said Howe. “He came on and had a slight awareness in his hamstring. I don’t think there is a massive reinjury but there is an awareness in his hamstring again.”

The Magpies are also running the rule over striker Chris Wood and defender Fabian Schar who have had their own injury concerns.

Howe continued: “We’re going to try today in training and see how he (Wood) is.

“As we said at the time I don’t think it is a serious injury so fingers crossed he comes through training today.

“Fabian, we haven’t seen. We are following concussion protocols so I believe he may be doing something outside today but as I said, we are following the protocols closely. That will be a late decision on Fabian.”

After the Clarets 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last night, they now have Premier League survival within their hands after going ahead of Leeds United on goal difference. Everton’s 3-2 comeback win over Crystal Palace ensured their top flight status for another season.

While for some at Newcastle, this may be their final game for the club but sentiment is of no concern for the head coach as he plans not give Burnley an easy way out of a relegation scrap.

Howe added: “We will pick our strongest team to try and win the game. There is no let up from our perspective, we will try and end the season on a high. We play our strongest team and try and get it right.

“Burnley is a very difficult game. A totally different challenge this game because of what is at stake and we know that previous experience, we need to be mentally right because it will be a tough day for us if we are not.”
