How did the players fare in Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Arsenal?
NEWCASTLE (4-3-3):
6 Dubravka: Had surprisingly little to do – claimed a second-half potshot from Elneny, but was never seriously extended
7 Krafth: Kept Smith Rowe in check throughout as he maintained his recent excellent form – has been a key performer in the last few weeks
7 Schar: Kept the Arsenal attack at bay throughout the first half, but was left badly dazed by a foul from Nketiah at the start of the second period
8 Burn: Another superb display from the January signing, who has transformed Newcastle’s defending in the second half of the season
8 Targett: Caused Arsenal a succession of problems attacking on the overlap – must surely be signed up on a permanent deal
9 GUIMARAES: The Brazilian ran the game, outperforming all of Arsenal’s internationals – what a signing he has been
7 Longstaff: Was a calming presence at the heart of midfield, and made a number of dangerous breaks into the Arsenal box
8 Joelinton: Continues to impress in his midfield role – was deservedly named Newcastle’s Player of the Year earlier yesterday
6 Almiron: Worked his socks off to close down Arsenal’s defenders and tried to offer a threat cutting in from the right
8 Wilson: Made a huge difference on his return to the starting line-up – almost produced a contender for Goal of the Season with a long-range strike
7 Saint-Maximin: Retained possession effectively and tried to build attacks with his team-mates rather than looking to do everything by himself
Subs:
6 Lascelles (for Schar, 49): Slotted in effectively for the concussed Schar and helped ensure Arsenal were not able to threaten in the second half
Murphy (for Almiron, 76)
Fraser (for Saint-Maximin, 76)
Gayle (for Wilson, 90)
(not used): Darlow (gk), Dummett, Trippier, Fernandez, Ritchie.
ARSENAL (4-2-3-1):
Ramsdale 6; Tomiyasu 4 (Cedric 39, 5), White 4, Gabriel 5 (Pepe 73), Tavares 4 (Lacazette 62, 4); Elneny 5, Xhaka 5; SAKA 6, Odegaard 5, Smith Rowe 4 (Martinelli 52, 4); Nketiah 4.
Subs (not used): Leno (gk), Lokonga, Oulad M’Hand, Swanson, Patino.
Man Of The Match: BRUNO GUIMARAES – Newcastle’s Brazilian maestro was the star of the show once again, capping an excellent display with a late goal.
